Cookiequiet vs tarteaucitron: open-source script against hosted service

Pricing
tarteaucitron is two things: tarteaucitron.js, an open-source consent script under the MIT licence, free with no time limit, and a Pro service at tarteaucitron.io. On 2026-10-20 the pricing page listed Pro at €25 a month (cancel any time), €190 for one year, €490 for three years ("Just €13.60 per month") or €690 for a lifetime licence in a single payment, excluding VAT, with a 7-day trial and no card. Pro has no limits: unlimited traffic, pageviews, consents and sites. The open-source version has unlimited websites and traffic too, with more than 220 services, 36 languages and Consent Mode for Google, Bing and Piano, but configuration, service declaration and updates are done by hand in code, there are no statistics, and support is the documentation and GitHub.
Cookiequiet is free for one website with unlimited pageviews, €3 per website per month or €29 a year on Starter, €9 per website per month or €99 a year on Pro, and €19 a month or €190 a year on Agency for a bundle of ten Pro websites and five team seats. For one site, Cookiequiet Starter at €29 a year and Pro at €99 a year both cost less than tarteaucitron Pro at €190. Cookiequiet's Agency plan costs the same €190 a year for ten Pro websites; beyond ten, tarteaucitron Pro's one price for all your sites wins.
Compliance features
tarteaucitron.js shows a "Deny all" button by default: the DenyAllCta option is true in the README example, alongside the recommended high-privacy mode that disables implied consent, with Accept all and Personalize next to it. Cookiequiet shows Accept all and Reject all with equal size and weight by default, with Customize opening the preferences centre. The two defaults are close; see the Reject all guide.
Consent Mode: both versions of tarteaucitron support Consent Mode for Google, Bing and Piano. Cookiequiet implements Google Consent Mode v2 and Microsoft UET, with a dataLayer event for Tag Manager.
Geo-targeting: not mentioned on tarteaucitron's pricing page. Cookiequiet includes it on every plan, with a US opt-out notice and Global Privacy Control.
Consent records: tarteaucitron Pro offers real-time statistics and CSV export, and the page does not mention consent proofs; the open-source script runs entirely in the browser, so there is no server-side log unless you build one. Cookiequiet records every choice server-side as proof of consent, 30 days on Free, 1 year on Starter and 5 years on Pro, with CSV export on Starter and Pro.
Certification: tarteaucitron is not on Google's certified CMP list and the TCF is not mentioned on its page; Cookiequiet is not certified either. Publishers serving AdSense, Ad Manager or AdMob ads to EEA, UK or Swiss visitors need a certified CMP for those ads with either tool.

tarteaucitron.js is a script you add to your pages, with an initialisation block and a declaration per service from a catalogue of more than 220 ready-made integrations; the site says it integrates with WordPress through a code snippet or a dedicated plugin. Pro adds a dashboard where you set the banner's options, colours and text, and consent statistics across all your sites and services.
Cookiequiet is one tag, about 7 KB compressed, with a scanner that finds and classifies your trackers from about 80 providers and a dashboard for the banner, the policies and the log; the install guides cover WordPress, Shopify, Webflow, Next.js and more. Languages: 36 at tarteaucitron, 24 at Cookiequiet, picked from the visitor's browser.
Policies: not mentioned on tarteaucitron's page. Cookiequiet generates a privacy policy, a cookie policy and terms from the scan, in English and French, as templates rather than legal advice.

Switching
Remove the tarteaucitron script, its initialisation block and the service declarations. Add the Cookiequiet tag before other scripts and mark each tracker's script with type="text/plain" data-cq-category="analytics" (or marketing, functional); embeds use data-cq-src. Run a scan to rebuild the service list that tarteaucitron held in its configuration, generate the cookie policy, and check Consent Mode in the scan report. Since tarteaucitron is open source, nothing stops you from keeping it: the honest reason to move is the dashboard, the scanner, the policies and the consent log, not the banner itself. The method is in blocking scripts until consent.
