Cookiequiet vs Complianz: WordPress plugin against hosted banner

Pick Complianz if your site runs on WordPress and you want a plugin that lives on your own server, with the TCF and certification available on premium for $59 a year. Pick Cookiequiet if you run anything other than WordPress, or if you want geo-targeting, Consent Mode v2, a hosted scanner and a consent log on the free plan without installing a plugin. Neither limits pageviews.

Pricing

Complianz is a WordPress plugin, free on wordpress.org with more than one million active installations, and a yearly premium licence. On 2026-10-20 its pricing page listed Personal at $59 a year for one website, Professional at $179 a year for five and Agency at $399 a year for 25 (with the multisite plugin), each with one year of support and updates; the page has euro and pound toggles and its FAQ gives Personal as €59. Bulk pricing above 25 sites is on request. Complianz puts no limit on pageviews or consent records on any tier.

Cookiequiet is free for one website, then €3 per website per month or €29 a year on Pro, €19 a month or €190 a year for ten Pro websites on Agency, and €79 once per website for a lifetime licence. For one site, Complianz Premium at $59 a year and Cookiequiet Pro at €29 a year are in the same range. The free versions are where the two differ most, since Cookiequiet's free plan includes per-visitor geo-targeting, Consent Mode v2 and the consent log, which Complianz lists as premium.

Compliance features

Complianz offers an Accept and Deny template, and its TCF guide says the two primary buttons should not differ in colour or size; its US banners follow the opt-out model and have no Deny button unless you switch the region to opt-in. Cookiequiet shows Accept all and Reject all at equal size and weight by default everywhere the banner appears, and shows a "Do not sell or share" opt-out notice in US states with a privacy law.

Consent Mode v2: on Complianz's paid plans (the free listing files Consent Mode under premium). On every Cookiequiet plan, with Microsoft UET.

Geo-targeting: the free Complianz plugin shows a banner per region you configure; per-visitor Geo IP consent is premium. Cookiequiet's per-visitor geo-targeting is on the free plan, with Global Privacy Control honoured.

Consent records: the free plugin has proof of consent, and records of consent are premium, with no retention stated. Cookiequiet keeps records 30 days on Free and 5 years on Pro, with CSV export on Pro.

Certification: Complianz CMP (ID 332) is on Google's certified CMP list, and the TCF integration is premium. Cookiequiet is not certified, so AdSense, Ad Manager or AdMob publishers with EEA, UK or Swiss visitors need Complianz Premium or another certified CMP for those ads.

Documents: the free plugin generates a cookie policy drafted by an IT law firm; privacy statements for several regions, processing agreements and children's policies are premium. Cookiequiet generates a privacy policy, a cookie policy and terms on every plan, in English and French, from the scan. Both are templates, not legal advice.

Setup and platforms

Complianz runs entirely on your WordPress server: no external script, no account elsewhere, and the banner is served from your own site. Its wizard scans up to 50 posts in the free version and the full website on premium, and it knows the WordPress plugins it finds. If your site is not on WordPress, Complianz is not an option.

Cookiequiet is one script tag served from cookiequiet.com, about 7 KB compressed, on any platform: WordPress included, but also Shopify, Webflow, Framer, Next.js or a static site. Its scanner reads 10 pages on Free and 50 on Pro and classifies what it finds from about 80 providers, and its banner ships 24 languages picked from the visitor's browser; Complianz lists 15+ languages, with community translations in 50 locales.

Where Complianz is better

  • WordPress-native: the plugin runs on your server, integrates with the WordPress plugins it detects, and needs no third-party script.
  • A Google-certified CMP with the TCF on premium.
  • No pageview or consent-record limits, free included.
  • A/B testing of banners and statistics on premium, and the multisite plugin on Agency.
  • A yearly price with no monthly billing, and bulk licences for 5 or 25 sites.

Where Cookiequiet is better

  • Works on any platform, not only WordPress.
  • Geo-targeting, Consent Mode v2, the consent log and three policy generators on the free plan.
  • Reject all by default everywhere, with equal prominence, plus the US opt-out notice and GPC on every plan.
  • A hosted scanner with a provider database, consent records kept 5 years with CSV export on Pro, an AI banner designer, a lifetime licence.

Switching

Deactivate Complianz (export its proof of consent first), add the Cookiequiet tag to your theme header or through a header plugin, before other scripts, and mark the tags that must wait for consent with type="text/plain" data-cq-category="...". If analytics or ads tags come from Google Tag Manager, use the cq_consent dataLayer event as the trigger; see Google Tag Manager. Run a scan, generate the cookie policy, and replace the Complianz policy page with the hosted one or a pasted copy. The steps are in the WordPress guide.
