Cookiequiet vs Borlabs Cookie: yearly WordPress licence or hosted banner

Pricing

Borlabs Cookie is a paid WordPress plugin sold as yearly licences, all prices in euros excluding VAT. On 2026-10-21 its prices page listed Personal at €49 a year for one website, Business - Small at €79 for three, Business - Medium at €109 for five, Business - Large at €179 for ten, Agency - Small at €229 for 25 and Agency at €499 for 99. Every licence has every feature, including unlimited pageviews, Consent Mode v2, Microsoft UET and the IAB TCF 2.4. There is no free version or trial, a 30-day money-back guarantee, and no seasonal discounts. When a licence expires, the plugin keeps running but loses updates, support, the scanner and the service library.

Cookiequiet is free for one website, then €3 per website per month or €29 a year on Starter, €9 per website per month or €99 a year on Pro, with the AI design agent, and €190 a year on Agency for a bundle of ten Pro websites and five team seats. The comparison depends on how many sites you run:

WebsitesBorlabs Cookie, per yearCookiequiet, per year
1€49€0 on Free, €29 on Starter
5€109€145 on Starter (€116 with one site on Free)
10€179€190 on Agency (10 Pro websites, 5 seats)

For one site, Cookiequiet costs €20 a year less on Starter, or nothing on Free, which includes geo-targeting. Over three years, one site costs €147 with Borlabs and €87 on Cookiequiet Starter. From five sites up, Borlabs' bundles cost less per site than Cookiequiet Starter, and at ten sites the two are within €11 of each other, with every Cookiequiet site on Pro and five team seats in the Agency bundle. The cost calculator shows the totals for your own site count.

Compliance features

Both block scripts until consent and both include Google Consent Mode v2 and Microsoft UET. Borlabs supports Basic and Advanced Consent Mode and blocks inline scripts, external styles such as Google Fonts, and embeds with content blockers you can design. Cookiequiet blocks marked scripts and embeds and adds an auto-blocker for scripts injected by JavaScript from about 80 known trackers.

Reject button: Borlabs lets you choose which buttons show and in what order, and its own FAQ says Accept and Reject should not differ in size, color or placement. Cookiequiet shows Accept all and Reject all at the same size and weight on the first screen by default; see the Reject all button.

Geo-targeting: Borlabs' Geo Restriction separates EU and non-EU visitors and can skip the dialog outside the EU. Cookiequiet's geo-targeting covers the EEA, the UK, Switzerland, Brazil, Canada and other regulated countries, a custom list, and an opt-out notice for US states with a privacy law, with Global Privacy Control honored.

Consent records: Borlabs logs consents and their changes in your WordPress database, with aggregated history across a multisite network; it does not state a retention period on its feature page. Cookiequiet keeps records 30 days on Free, 1 year on Starter and 5 years on Pro, with CSV export on Starter and Pro.

Certification: Borlabs Cookie CMP is on Google's certified CMP list, and the TCF 2.4 is in every licence. Cookiequiet is not certified, so a WordPress site running AdSense, Ad Manager or AdMob for visitors in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland is better served by Borlabs for those ads.

Setup and platforms

Borlabs takes more steps to start: you buy a licence, download the plugin through the Borlabs customer portal, upload it to WordPress, activate the licence key for the domain, then run the Setup Assistant, whose Quick Setup configures the plugin automatically. It then runs entirely on your server and, per its FAQ, sends no visitor data to Borlabs. It has a setup assistant, a library of more than 370 service and content blocker packages for WordPress plugins and common services, WP-CLI and Composer support, a color assistant aimed at WCAG 2.1 AA, and 8 native translations with WPML, Polylang, TranslatePress and Weglot support. Its FAQ says it is "exclusively available for WordPress" and there are no plans for other systems.

Cookiequiet is one script tag of about 7 KB compressed, served from cookiequiet.com, on any platform, with no plugin to configure and no licence key: sign up, paste the tag before your other scripts, and the first scan fills the cookie table and prefills the policies, with Reject all on by default; a banner is live in about five minutes. On WordPress you paste it in the header; on Shopify, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Framer, Next.js or a static site the same tag works. The banner ships 24 languages, and the scanner feeds a generated privacy policy, cookie policy and terms, which Borlabs does not offer.

  • WordPress integration: a library of packages for WordPress plugins, WP-CLI, Composer, multisite consent history, cache clearing for common caching plugins.
  • Data stays on your own server; nothing loads from a third-party host.
  • A Google-certified CMP with the IAB TCF 2.4 in every licence.
  • Lower price per site from five sites up, with every feature in every licence.
  • Style blocking for Google Fonts and a large set of design options.

Where Cookiequiet is better

  • Works on any platform, not only WordPress.
  • A free plan, with geo-targeting and a consent log, and a lower price for one site.
  • Monthly billing at €3 per site on Starter instead of a yearly licence, and ten Pro websites with five team seats for €190 a year on Agency.
  • Policies generated from the scan, records kept 5 years on Pro with CSV export, a US opt-out notice, AI brand match on Starter and an AI design agent on Pro.

Switching

Export Borlabs' consent logs before deactivating it, then add the Cookiequiet tag to the theme header before other scripts and mark the scripts that must wait with type="text/plain" data-cq-category="...". Borlabs' content blockers wrap embeds; replace them with data-cq-src on the iframe. Run a scan and check the result before going live. See Complianz for another WordPress plugin compared.
