How do Termly's strengths compare?
Termly's policy generator is the reason most people choose it: a long questionnaire, a wide set of documents (privacy policy, cookie policy, terms, EULA, disclaimers and others on Pro+) and hosted versions that update. Its Auto Blocker, enabled by adding a parameter to the embed script, holds third-party scripts until consent, and its documentation also offers tag manager and manual blocking.
Cookiequiet's policies work differently. They are written from what the cookie scan finds, with a questionnaire prefilled by the scan: the processors table, retention periods, rights, the supervisory authority of your company's country and the cookie table. They cover the GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy, CCPA/CPRA, LGPD and the Swiss FADP, in English and French. They are templates, not legal advice, and every policy page says so. If you need an EULA or a disclaimer, Termly or Termageddon have them and Cookiequiet does not.
What would you save?
On one website, moving from Termly Pro+ billed yearly ($180) to Cookiequiet Starter (€29) keeps unlimited views, regional rules and a consent log with CSV export. On five websites the yearly bill goes from $900 to €145, or €190 on the Agency plan for up to 10 Pro websites. The comparison only holds if you do not need the IAB TCF, which Termly Pro+ includes and Cookiequiet does not.
Setup is also shorter than a policy-first tool: one script tag placed before your other scripts, no plugin or tag-manager configuration needed, the scan fills the cookie table and prefills the policies, Reject all is on by default and Consent Mode v2 is switched on in the snippet the dashboard gives you. You can try the privacy policy generator without an account.
What should you check before leaving Termly?
- Export your consent logs. Export is a Pro+ feature on Termly; keep the file, because consents collected by one tool are your proof for the period it ran.
- Copy or replace your policies. Hosted Termly policies stop updating when you cancel. Generate the new ones first, then change the links in your footer.
- Re-mark blocked scripts. Termly's manual method uses its own
data-categoriesattribute. Cookiequiet understands the CookieYes and Cookiebot markups, but not Termly's, so manually marked scripts needtype="text/plain"anddata-cq-categoryinstead. Scripts held by Termly's Auto Blocker need nothing: Cookiequiet's auto-blocker holds about 80 known trackers created by JavaScript, and the scan lists what remains. - Expect one new consent prompt. Returning visitors are asked again, once, because their earlier choice was stored by Termly's script.
Who should pick which?
- Stay on Termly Pro+ if you rely on its wider set of legal documents or need the TCF.
- Termageddon if you want policies kept up to date with new laws and your site stays under 50,000 sessions a month. See Termageddon.
- iubenda if you need terms and conditions plus a banner in many languages and can accept pageview tiers. See iubenda.
- Cookiequiet if the banner, geo-targeting and a privacy and cookie policy that match your actual cookies are what you need, on any platform, at a flat €3 a month per site on Starter. The pricing page lists the plans, and switching from Termly gives the steps.
