# How to add a cookie consent banner to a Jimdo website

> On a Jimdo Creator website, paste the snippet at the top of Menu, then Settings, then Edit Head, and save. Then switch off Jimdo's own cookie notice under Settings, then Privacy & Security, and rebuild your Video and Google Maps elements as HTML widgets, because Jimdo only shows those elements after consent given in its own notice. Sites made with Jimdo's no-code builder may have no head field at all.

## Steps

1. **Copy your snippet** In the Cookiequiet dashboard, open your website and copy the install snippet: one script tag with your site key, data-consent-mode and data-auto-block set to 1, and defer.
2. **Paste it in Edit Head** In your Jimdo Creator website's edit mode, open the Menu, go to Settings, then Edit Head. Paste the snippet at the very top, above any existing code, and click Save.
3. **Switch off Jimdo's cookie notice** In the Menu, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Use of Cookies, and turn the cookie notice off so visitors see one banner.
4. **Rebuild video and map elements** Jimdo hides its Video and Google Maps elements until consent is given in its own notice. Replace them with Widget/HTML elements holding the embed iframe, with data-cq-src instead of src.
5. **Move and mark your tracking tags** Paste your Google tag, Meta Pixel or other tracking code in Edit Head below the snippet, with type="text/plain" and a data-cq-category on each script tag.
6. **Add the Cookie preferences link** Add a Widget/HTML element in an area shown on every page (the sidebar or footer area of your layout) with a link to #cq-preferences, or turn on the floating preferences button in the banner settings.
7. **Test the published site** Open the site in a private window, click Reject all and check that no _ga or _fbp cookie is set. Accept all, reload, check that videos appear and that the choice is in the consent log.

## Where to paste the snippet in Jimdo

Jimdo has two editors, and they differ on code. **Jimdo Creator** lets you add your own HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and its help center names the place for code in the head of every page: open the **Menu**, then **Settings**, then **Edit Head**. Paste the snippet at the very top, above anything already there, and click **Save**:

```html
<script src="https://cookiequiet.com/cq.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_KEY" data-consent-mode="1" data-auto-block="1" defer></script>
```

Copy what the field already holds before you change it (Search Console verification tags, older tracking code), so you can restore it if something goes wrong.

**Jimdo's no-code website builder** is built for people who do not touch code, and Jimdo's help center documents Edit Head only for Creator. Look in your site's settings for a field for head code. If there is none, a third-party banner cannot be loaded on every page, and Jimdo's own cookie notice is the tool you have on that editor. That is a limit of the editor, not of the banner.

## How does Jimdo's own cookie notice interact?

Jimdo Creator includes a cookie notice with categories, switched on and off under **Settings**, then **Privacy & Security**, then **Use of Cookies**, and a cookie policy page where you list cookies. Two banners on one site confuse visitors and record two consents, so turn Jimdo's notice off once Cookiequiet is live. Keep three consequences in mind:

- **Video and map elements.** Jimdo documents that its Video Element is only displayed to visitors who consented in its notice, and that without the notice no consent can be given, so the element is not displayed. The Google Maps element works the same way. Replace each one with a **Widget/HTML** element holding the provider's embed code, with `data-cq-src` in place of `src`:

```html
<iframe data-cq-src="https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/VIDEO_ID" width="560" height="315" allowfullscreen></iframe>
```

  Cookiequiet sets the real address after consent, as the [YouTube embeds and consent guide](/guides/youtube-embeds-and-consent) explains.
- **Tracking you set up through Jimdo's settings** is tied to Jimdo's notice too. Remove it there and paste the tags in **Edit Head** below the snippet, marked so they wait for consent:

```html
<script type="text/plain" data-cq-category="analytics" src="https://www.googletagmanager.com/gtag/js?id=G-XXXXXXX"></script>
<script type="text/plain" data-cq-category="analytics">
  window.dataLayer = window.dataLayer || [];
  function gtag(){dataLayer.push(arguments);}
  gtag('js', new Date());
  gtag('config', 'G-XXXXXXX');
</script>
```

  The Meta Pixel gets `data-cq-category="marketing"`. More patterns are in the [guide to blocking scripts until consent](/guides/block-scripts-until-consent).
- **Google AdSense.** Jimdo's help center notes that its cookie banner is not a Google-certified CMP. Neither is Cookiequiet: sites that show AdSense ads to visitors in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland need a certified CMP for those ads.

Widgets that insert scripts with JavaScript (chat, booking tools) are covered by the auto-blocker, which holds the scripts and iframes of about 80 known trackers until their category is granted.

## How to add the Cookie preferences link

Jimdo lets you edit footer links only on paid Creator plans. The simplest route on any plan is a **Widget/HTML** element in an area shared by every page, such as the sidebar or footer area of your layout:

```html
<a href="#cq-preferences" data-cq-show-preferences>Cookie preferences</a>
```

If your layout has no shared area, turn on the floating Cookie preferences button in the banner settings.

## How to test

1. Open the published site in a private window, logged out of Jimdo. Only Cookiequiet's banner shows.
2. Click **Reject all** and check the cookies in the developer tools: `cq_consent` and nothing from Google or Meta. Video widgets stay empty.
3. Clear the cookies, click **Accept all**, reload: videos appear and the marked tags run.
4. Check the consent log in the Cookiequiet dashboard, and run the free [cookie scanner](/tools/cookie-scanner) to see what the site still sets.

Cookiequiet is free for one website with geo-targeting included, and Starter costs €3 per website per month with no pageview limit.

## Questions

### Where is the head code field in Jimdo?

In Jimdo Creator, open the Menu, then Settings, then Edit Head. Jimdo's no-code builder does not document an equivalent field, so check your site's settings; without one, a third-party banner cannot be added to every page.

### Why did my videos disappear after I turned off Jimdo's cookie notice?

Jimdo shows its Video Element only to visitors who consented in its own notice, so without the notice the element stays hidden. Replace it with a Widget/HTML element whose iframe uses data-cq-src, and Cookiequiet loads it after consent.

### Can I keep Jimdo's cookie notice and add Cookiequiet as well?

Keep one. Two banners ask the same question twice and record two different consents. If you switch, turn Jimdo's notice off and move tracking and embeds to code that Cookiequiet controls.

### Does Cookiequiet work with Google AdSense on Jimdo?

Not for EEA, UK or Swiss visitors. Showing AdSense ads to them requires a Google-certified CMP, which neither Jimdo's notice nor Cookiequiet is. Analytics, conversion tags and embeds work with Cookiequiet.
