# How to add a cookie consent banner to a GoDaddy website

> It depends on which GoDaddy builder made the site. Airo for WordPress sites install like any WordPress site, and Airo AI Builder gives code-level access, so the snippet goes in the head of the site's HTML. The classic Websites + Marketing builder only documents an HTML section that runs inside an iframe, which cannot host a site-wide banner, so use a head code setting if your editor shows one, or GoDaddy's own cookie banner.

## Steps

1. **Check which builder you have** GoDaddy's help center lists three: the classic Websites + Marketing builder, Airo AI Builder and Airo for WordPress. Each takes the banner in a different place.
2. **Copy your snippet** In the Cookiequiet dashboard, open your website and copy the install snippet: one script tag with your site key, data-consent-mode and data-auto-block set to 1, and defer.
3. **Airo for WordPress: use the WordPress header** Paste the snippet with WPCode's Header & Footer box or the wp_head hook at priority 0, as described in the WordPress guide.
4. **Airo AI Builder: add it to the head** Open the code view, or ask the chat, and place the snippet as the first script inside the head of the site's root HTML or layout, then publish.
5. **Websites + Marketing: look for a head code setting** In Edit Website, open Settings and look for an option for code in the head. If there is one, paste the snippet, remove Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel from Settings, paste them marked, and turn off GoDaddy's Cookie Banner.
6. **Without head access, keep GoDaddy's banner** Do not paste the snippet in an HTML section: it runs in an iframe. Keep Settings, then Cookie Banner, with Show cookie notification on, so GoDaddy's integrations wait for consent.
7. **Test the published site** Open the site in a private window, click Reject all and check that no _ga or _fbp cookie is set. Accept all, reload, and check the consent log.

## Which GoDaddy builder do you have?

GoDaddy's help center separates three products that all build websites, and the answer to "where does the script go" differs for each:

| Builder | Comes with | Code access | Where the snippet goes |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Classic Websites + Marketing builder | Websites + Marketing plans | HTML sections | No documented head field (see below) |
| Airo AI Builder | Standalone, free tier and paid plans | Code-level editing | Head of the site's root HTML |
| Airo for WordPress | Managed Hosting for WordPress | WordPress | WordPress header |

**Airo for WordPress** builds a regular WordPress site. Install the snippet with WPCode's Header & Footer box or the `wp_head` hook, exactly as in the [WordPress guide](/platforms/wordpress).

**Airo AI Builder** offers code-level editing. Place the snippet as the first script inside `<head>` of the site's root HTML or layout, or ask the chat to do it with the exact tag, then publish and check the page source:

```html
<script src="https://cookiequiet.com/cq.js" data-site="YOUR_SITE_KEY" data-consent-mode="1" data-auto-block="1" defer></script>
```

## Why the classic Websites + Marketing builder is harder

GoDaddy's documented way to add custom code to a Websites + Marketing site is the **HTML** section: add a section to a page, choose HTML and paste the code in **Custom Code**. GoDaddy states that this embed is placed inside an iframe. A script in an iframe runs in its own small document: it cannot show a banner over your page, read the page's tags or hold them until consent. So the HTML section is not a place for any consent banner, Cookiequiet included.

Some third-party install guides describe a head code option in the Settings panel of the editor. GoDaddy's own help center does not document one, so check your editor: in **Edit Website**, open **Settings** and look for an option that adds code to the head of every page. If you have it:

1. Paste the snippet there, at the top, and publish.
2. Remove Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel from GoDaddy's **Settings** integrations, and paste their tags in the same head field below the snippet, marked with `type="text/plain"` and `data-cq-category="analytics"` or `"marketing"`, as in the [guide to blocking scripts until consent](/guides/block-scripts-until-consent).
3. Turn off GoDaddy's cookie banner under **Settings**, then **Cookie Banner**, so visitors see one banner.

## What GoDaddy's own cookie banner does

If you have no head access, GoDaddy's banner is the tool that works on that builder. It lives in **Edit Website**, then **Settings**, then **Cookie Banner**, and is on by default for new sites. With **Show cookie notification** on, visitors can accept or decline; GoDaddy documents that tracking tools added through Settings (Google Analytics, the Meta Pixel and others) load only if the visitor accepts, and that the banner must be on when you add such integrations. You can edit the title, message and button labels.

The same panel has an **Advanced Tracking** toggle. GoDaddy describes it as aggregated, anonymized data for your dashboard metrics and site performance, which must be on for third-party tracking to work; whether to enable it is your decision as the site owner.

GoDaddy's banner has no cookie scanner, consent log or policy generator. If you need those on a classic Websites + Marketing site without head access, the realistic path is moving the site to a builder that allows head code; the free [cookie scanner](/tools/cookie-scanner) shows what your current site sets either way.

## How to add the Cookie preferences link

On Airo AI Builder and WordPress, add a footer link with `href="#cq-preferences"`; Cookiequiet opens the preferences centre from it. Where you cannot edit the footer, turn on the floating Cookie preferences button in the banner settings.

## How to test

1. Publish, then open the live site in a private window.
2. Click **Reject all** and check the cookies in the developer tools: `cq_consent` and nothing from Google or Meta.
3. Clear the cookies, click **Accept all**, reload: the marked tags run.
4. Check the consent log in the Cookiequiet dashboard.

Cookiequiet is free for one website with geo-targeting included, and Starter costs €3 per website per month with no pageview limit.

## Questions

### Can I paste a cookie banner script in a GoDaddy HTML section?

It will not work as a site-wide banner. GoDaddy places HTML section code inside an iframe, so the script cannot cover the page or control its tags. A banner needs code in the head of every page.

### Does GoDaddy Websites + Marketing have a head code field?

GoDaddy's help center documents only the HTML section for custom code. Some third-party guides mention a head code option in the editor's Settings, so check your editor; if it is there, that is where the snippet goes.

### Is GoDaddy's built-in cookie banner enough?

It lets visitors accept or decline and holds the tracking integrations added in Settings until they accept. It has no scan, consent log or policy generator, which is what you add by moving to a builder with head access.

### How do I install Cookiequiet on a site built with Airo?

Airo for WordPress sites install like any WordPress site, through the header. Airo AI Builder sites take the snippet in the head of the root HTML, through code editing or the chat.
